Please join us on 24 April 2025, when we will be commemorating the 8th anniversary of the landmark ruling against the corrupt nuclear deal in the Western Cape High Court.
Eight years ago, on 26 April 2017, the landmark judgement was given by the Western Cape high courts halting the proposed R 1 trillion nuclear deal, which was ruled illegal. As we reflect on this milestone, we will be looking at current threats and ongoing efforts to safeguard our #nuclearfree energy future.
Join a peaceful vigil at Parliament in Cape Town from 9:00 am, followed by a film screening and discussion of Nuclear Aftershocks at the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation from 11:00 am.
This anniversary event will bring together faith leaders, civil society, and partners such as Earthlife Africa Johannesburg, Project 90 by 2030, Koeberg Alert Alliance, The Green Connection, and Heinrich Böll Foundation. It will be a powerful opportunity to connect, reflect, and strengthen our commitment to a safer, cleaner, and more sustainable energy future for South Africa.
RSVP here to confirm your in-person attendance. Light snacks will be served after the vigil, and lunch will be served after the film screening and panel discussion.
RSVP here to attend the film screening and discussion online.
Inquiries can be sent to Mishkah Moerat, mishkah@safcei.org.za or WhatsApp on +27 73 084 3869.
We look forward to seeing you there and standing together for a nuclear-free South Africa!
